A Mother Speaks A Play About Gun Crime

Listening to the radio this morning I heard about a play that has just opened at the Hackney Empire called A MOTHER SPEAKS by Judd Batchelor. It is about a mother coming to terms with the fact that her son has been shot. This deals with a significant subject, the effects of gun crime on a family. Schools will be taking their pupils to see it. This could help have a real impact on young people and what the consequences of gun crime are. If it makes even one person think and realise how appalling it is then it has been a success. What really shocks me is that on hearing about this play not one politician responded this includes Gordon Brown the Prime Minister and Ken Livingstone the Mayor of London. Why haven’t they shown support for something they themselves consider so important? The schools have shown the way they should now follow and go and see it.
